Purpose of the Qualification
The Functional Skills qualifications in English (Level 1 & Level 2) are designed to equip learners with essential communication skills for professional, academic, and everyday use. Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
Guided Learning Hours (GLH) represent the time learners spend receiving structured instruction, supervision, or direct guidance from an educator, such as a tutor or trainer. The GLH for each qualification is 55 hours, as set by Ofqual.
Total Qualification Time (TQT)
Total Qualification Time (TQT) refers to the estimated total hours a learner will need to complete the qualification. This includes both guided learning and independent study, such as reading, writing practice, and assessments conducted outside structured supervision. The TQT for each qualification is 60 hours, encompassing all learning and evaluation activities.
